Hello from Melbourne!

Yep, I’m here at Melbourne, Australia. Been here for three weeks already and a lot has happened since then. I’m here on assignment, the client requested for us to personally be here so that there’s a quick turnaround for support. In other words, they can make “kulit” non-stop! Haha! Anyways, the day we arrived was also a big day in Melbourne because of the AFL grand finals. You can see a lot of people wearing the colors of the teams they we’re supporting. We we’re supposed to watch the parade but we we’re all tired from the flight. The next day I heard that the result of the grand finals was a draw so there was going to be a rematch the next Saturday.

I’m really not a big fan of football, but as I was googling away about the sport because I wondered of what the fascination is all about. I found out that around the world there are different types of ways football is played. Here in Australia, football is similar to American Rugby. The players don’t have any helmets and they don’t always kick the ball unlike soccer. What’s even more interesting is that in the AFL grand finals the two teams competing against each other are both Melbourne teams. I would expect that the rival teams would come from different states like in the US where they have the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles or Chicago Bears etc.

The winner of this years AFL was the Collingwood Magpies against the St. Kilda Saints. They scored 108 while St. Kilda only scored 52. If my research is correct, they also won against St. Kilda last 1979 which recorded the greatest winning margin of 178 points.

I’d like to share other experiences I had here at Melbourne but I’d leave that for another blog entry. So far I’m enjoying the country although I don’t feel safe whenever I walk on some of the streets at night on Fridays and Saturdays :)
